There has been considerable advancement in measures that define Nuclear Risk Reduction (NRR) through the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR) and the Creating an Environment for Nuclear Disarmament (CEND) initiative. However, there has been little opportunity and work done to critically assess which measures could or should be implemented, how this implementation would practically work, and through which fora these measures could be advanced.
This Wilton Park dialogue will provide an opportunity for a core group of policy makers to engage with and critically assess the work of experts, think tanks and NGOs and discuss issues of implementation, advancement, and prioritisation for the ideas proposed during the dialogue. This process will enable policy makers to assess the benefits and risks of novel initiatives on NRR in a collaborative manner with partner states and offer the opportunity to take deep dives into new initiatives with expert input.
The output of the dialogues will be captured in a report which will detail the discussions and provide a basis for working papers, potential policy decisions, and the development of NRR initiatives.
