International scholarships: the case for investment, and how to ensure impact (WP1469)

Scholarships for individuals for higher or postgraduate education or professional development are costly but provide valuable cohorts of alumni who are believed to be an asset to the country they study in (soft power) and can effect social change in their own country (development).

This meeting brought together those responsible for UK government initiated international scholarship schemes, with counterparts running other such schemes, and partners in the academic and private sector to discuss how to maximise the impact from international scholarships, sharing best practice, learning from one another and exploring new or innovative ideas for such programmes in the future.

Participants and former scholarship alumni tell us about the impacts of their scholarship on their life and how they have engaged with the UK since.
