Addressing security risks and threats from climate change (WP1831V)

WP1831V

The impacts of long-term climate trends and extreme weather events pose significant threats to states and their populations. This meeting is an opportunity for the international defence and security community to consider the unignorable instabilities climate change threatens, ahead of COP26 as the opportunity to commit to action.

Bringing senior international security policy makers together with climate and security subject matter experts, this meeting will lay the foundations for achieving broad consensus on climate security risks, early warning measures and risk management strategies.

Collaborative and coordinated action is imperative to identify and mitigate climate security risk. The aim of this meeting is to achieve consensus on the opportunities for collaborative action, leading to commitments by the international defence and security sector at COP26 and beyond.
