This conference is the culminating stage of a ‘Smart EU Energy Policy’ project conducted in partnership with the Clingendael International Energy Programme (CIEP), the Loyola de Palacio Programme of the European University Institute, and the Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei (FEEM). The central purpose of the project is to contribute to the EU 2010 energy policy review by comprehensively examining the different interactions between the three pillars of EU energy policy:
- competitiveness through market liberalisation;
- a sustainable energy economy;
- security of supply;
