International Leaders Programme alumni meeting: climate change

ILP

In partnership with the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office

This invite only, expert roundtable will engage alumni members from the International Leaders Programme in dialogue about strategies for climate adaptation and resilience.

The 2021 International Leaders Programme (ILP) Alumni series, initiated by the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), provides an online forum to strengthen the ILP alumni network through discussions on key policy issues, prospects and drivers in 2020/21.

This ILP discussion will focus on climate change, one of a number of events scheduled in the lead up to the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26), to be held in Glasgow in November 2021. Drawing on the extensive expertise and experience across the ILP, and building on lessons learned and national case studies, this workshop aims to identify ways in which to:

  • influence and lobby national governments to deliver targets and meet commitments through realistic programmes of delivery;
  • strengthen engagement between national governments, business, financial institutions, youth, faith groups and other non-governmental bodies

The ILP, run by the FCDO, was established in March 2013 by former Foreign Secretary William Hague to promote lasting global partnerships with emerging leaders and future decision-makers. Through high-level discussion led by expert practitioners, the programme aims to support greater international and regional cooperation and strengthen links with the UK. Meetings will enable alumni members to forge further links for future activities and to cement relationships established through the ILP network. Themes for online alumni meetings will include climate change, media freedom and empowerment of women and girls.
