This meeting gathered donors and key stakeholders to discuss the implementation of the Principles of Donor Alignment for Digital Health (the Donor Principles) and explored what progression of the Donor Principles will look like in short to medium term. The Donor Principles address the need to harmonise funding architecture for digital health, support co-investment strategies and propose a more coordinated approach. Discussions drew on case studies for country specific lessons on donor coordination and provided a space for participants to discuss and agree on next steps to bring the Donor Principles forward and maintain momentum.
The meeting continues our series on digital health, and builds directly on the discussions at the meeting on Digital health in Africa: leadership and coordination held in October 2017. Those discussions resulted in donors exploring how to align investments in country digital health, which in turn led to The Principles of Donor Alignment for Digital Health.
These principles complement other international development commitments such as UHC2030, the Busan Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation, and the Paris Declaration on Aid Effectiveness.
The goal by the end of the meeting was to identify up to ten activities that participants identify as essential to execute the Donor Principles, which three of those to focus on in the coming year, including what they will look like and how success will be measured, and outlining the next steps to take them forward.
