Wilton Park has a longstanding relationship with Indonesia and her people

We have been convening discussions focused on and relevant to South East Asia since 1995, with some meetings held in the region. Issues include regional cooperation, economic perspectives, disaster prevention and preparedness, the security agenda, crisis management and confidence building.

We have held events relating to political and economic development in Indonesia since 2008 with speakers such as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Marty Natalegawa, former Foreign Minister and Presidential Adviser Dr Hassan Wirajuda, Professor Anies Baswedan, Rector, University of Paramadina and Professor Azyumardi Azra of the State Islamic University.

In September 2012, we held our first conference in Jakarta, in association with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (KEMLU) and the British Embassy, which focused on sustainable growth and prospects for a green economy. At this time, we agreed a partnership with KEMLU for convening international discussion events on a regular basis.
